Exciting Adventures Await in England! 🇬🇧

I’m thrilled to share that next summer, I’ll be embarking on an incredible journey to England, and I couldn’t be more excited! From the bustling excitement of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to the historic charm of Royal Leamington Spa, my itinerary will be packed with amazing experiences. But one of the highlights I’m particularly looking forward to is exploring the beautiful North East coast, especially the charming town of Seaham.

I am very lucky to have family that reside in Central England and I am so looking forward to spending time and to be able reconnect with them.

I had the privilege of living there for a year back in 1996. It’s a place where history, nature, and personal memories blend together, making it all the more meaningful for me to return.

A Brief History of Seaglass in Seaham

The story of Seaham's seaglass dates back to the Victorian era when the town was home to the largest bottle works in Britain, the Londonderry Bottleworks, which operated from the mid-19th century until its closure in 1921. During its peak, the factory produced millions of glass bottles, and in the process, significant amounts of waste glass were discarded into the North Sea.

Over the years, this discarded glass was broken down by the relentless power of the waves, resulting in the stunning pieces of seaglass that now wash up on Seaham’s beaches. Each piece of seaglass found here is like a tiny piece of history, a remnant of a bygone era transformed by nature into something beautiful.

Today, collectors and beachcombers flock to Seaham to search for these unique treasures, which come in a variety of colors, from the common greens and browns to rare shades of pink, blue, and even multicolored pieces known as “end of day” glass. These rarities are the result of the factory workers combining leftover glass of various colors at the end of the production day.

Exploring Seaham and Beyond

During my visit to Seaham, I’ll be spending plenty of time combing the beaches, looking for these incredible pieces of seaglass with my own eyes/hands. It’s a special place where the past meets the present in the most beautiful way. I plan to book my stay at the historic Seaham Hall.

Stay tuned for more updates as I countdown to this exciting trip! If you’re a fellow beachcomber or history enthusiast, Seaham should definitely be on your travel list. 🌊💎.
