Tumbled Treasures: A Glimpse Into My Sea Glass Jar
Share
I've just sorted and organized my sea glass collection by colour and uniqueness.
There’s something so satisfying about a jar full of sea glass. Each piece a soft, frosted treasure shaped by salt, time, and tide. This image captures my aqua collection, all excitingly found along the shores of British Columbia.
The gentle blues, greens and aquas are soothing to look at, like holding little bits of ocean in your hand. They remind me of tranquility, peace and the excitement of spotting a shimmer in the sand.
That’s the beauty of beachcombing. It’s not just about what you find it’s about how it makes you feel. Peaceful, present, connected. Each piece in this jar holds that feeling.
🟢 Ever Wonder Where These Sea Glass Colours Come From?
Each piece in this jar holds more than just beauty it holds a bit of history. Let’s break down the origin stories behind these soft green and aqua sea glass treasures:
✨ Soft Green
Once part of:
* Soda bottles (like 7Up or Mountain Dew)
* Old beer bottles from the 1930s–60s
* Fruit and pickling jars
* Glass insulators
✨ Aqua / Seafoam
Likely came from:
* Vintage Mason jars
* Early Coca-Cola bottles (pre-1950s)
* Medicine and ink bottles
* Fishermen’s glass floats
🌊 Over decades, these discarded items were worn smooth by the waves and returned to shore as natural works of art. It’s a beautiful reminder that what’s broken can become beautiful again.
Do you collect sea glass too and what is your favourite colour to find?
